How does it work?

Our robots gather trip and exceptions data from your Geotab database, and analyse it by driver. We score each driver for each rule you have configured, then compile their global score and ranking. Badges and medals are awarded to top performers, and this data is communicated to drivers in Geotab Drive, and to managers in MyGeotab.

How do I get started?

Follow these instructions to enter the Driver Challenge. Make sure you talk to your reseller first to get pricing sorted out before your trial expires.

Why gamification?

Gamification is proven to improve performance and engagement. Getting your drivers engaged is the key to achieve your goals, whether you are focusing on optimization or safety (why not both?). Gamification will drive adoption and get results with less time spent coaching.

Is Geotab Drive required?

No. You can still see reports in MyGeotab of your driver's behavior even if they don't use Geotab Drive, but they do need to be assigned to the right vehicles. You can do this manually or by using NFC readers. Of course without Geotab Drive, your drivers won't see their scores, rankings or trends, so the gamification effect is less effective.

What is the team view button?

We recently introduced a team view for larger fleets that use groups in Geotab. If we detect groups directly under your current scope, team view will be enabled. Activate it to aggregate results by team (group) instead of individuals. Now your branches, business units or teams can compete with one another!

What does rule weight do?

Rule weight is a way to give more or less importance to rules or KPIs. Let's say you have 4 rules and each of them is worth 25%, having a score of 0 in any one of them would make your global score 75%. But you could have 3 of them worth 30% each, and for instance, Engine Abuse could be worth 10% of the global score. Then, an Engine Abuse score of 0 would still get you a global score of 90%. Your fleet, your rules. Assign a higher weight to more important rules.

What does the "use duration" option do?

Typically, we look at event counts to calculate the rate according to distance. But in some cases, it doesn't make sense to just look at event counts. For idling, duration is more important than event count, so it would make sense that 2 events of 1 hour each would score below 4 events of 15 minutes each. If you check the "use duration" option for a rule, it changes the way we score that rule to minutes / X miles driven instead of events / X miles driven. Typically used for idling rules, also makes sense for speeding rules.

What does the "scoring setting" option do?

New installations default to the standard scoring setting. In that mode, event rates are based on events (or minutes, see above) per 500 miles driven. The relaxed setting uses events / 100 miles driven and the harsh setting uses events / 1000 miles driven. Depending on your fleet's activity and rules, change this setting to artificially increase or decrease scores throughout the fleet - it might be hard to encourage a driver to improve when he has a score of 99, or to keep a driver motivated if he has a score of 43! Changes take effect immediately.

I have changed rules or weights, where do I recompile?

You don't. We already have. Scores and ranks are compiled in realtime. If you already had a page open in MyGeotab, simply refresh to load updated scores and rankings. In Geotab Drive, wait a few minutes or close and reopen it, and the data will be up to date.
